Session 7

Heroes: Aonar, Meghera, Vaako, Tarabas

The Sensates contact the Heroes to investigate the fate of a prime mage known as Ranph; the mage was providing the faction with rare magical components, but it's already several months that the trade has stopped without any reason. The Heroes travel to the mage's plane through the same portal normally used by Ranph to reach Sigil, and find themselves among farmlands on the world of Toril.

They journey to a nearby village, where they learn of a haunted wizard's mound not too far into the nearby woods. When they investigate the mound, they find the place has been ransacked thoroughly, and is in a state of advanced disrepair. Still, there's no doubt that it was once the abode of a wizard, with books and alchemical equipment filling several of the rooms.

Halitsu the Spinagon
The Heroes find the laboratory where Ranph was conducting his planar studies, but accidentally trigger a portal; as a spined devil looks at them with a surprised gaze, they realize they're now in Avernus, the first layer of Baator, also known as the Nine Hells.

Understading that the portal cannot bring them back to Toril, the Heroes turn to the spinagon for information. With the right amount of intimidation, they're pointed to a nearby mountain range, where an Old Witch is said to live. The Heroes must journey through a blasted landscape, under an oppressing red sky filled with random explosions of fireballs, and even need to cross a river of blood filled with evil souls!

Pillar of Skulls
They reach the mountain range, and spot the old hag's abode. After a volent start, the Heroes come to terms with the witch; while she does not know of a way to leave Avernus, she suggests the Heroes seek the Pillar of Skulls, a collection of wise tormented souls to the south.

As they travel south, in the distance they spot the endless legions of the Pit Fiend Bel, ruler of Avernus. They soon understand the need to leave Baator with haste, for the devils will not look kindly on any intrusion. After a few miles of sweaty trudging through the infernal barrens, they spot the Pillar of Skulls.
