The zombies attack, but they're no match for the Heroes, who receive unexpected help from the bard Tarabas, a fire genasi interested in making new exciting experiences.
The Heroes capture Toranna, and bring her to their hideout to interrogate her. She tells them what she knows about the Illuminated, a sect looking to infiltrate all the Factions in order to manipulate them from the shadows. The Heroes manage to convince her that they also wish to join, and release her after having made a deal: she will bring them to the Citadel of Fire in the Elemental Plane of Fire, where the barmies are healed of their madness, so that they may better understand the philosophy of the Illuminated.
The day after, the Heroes go to the Mortuary to meet Toranna again, but they find her less amicable. She insists that the Heroes enter the portal to the Plane of Fire without any equipment. The Heroes smell a trap, and a fight ensues. After having defeated Toranna's guard, they force her to give them the key to access the portal (red glass beads), and go through the fiery door.

On the other side, they find themselves on a platform, on the side of a citadel partially built inside a floating chunk of rock, swimming in the searing flames of the fiery plane. Some powerful magic is protecting the citadel from the fire, but both the Heroes and the inhabitants of the citadel need to be very careful to not cross the boundaries of the protection.
The Heroes explore the citadel, fighting against several groups of Illuminated guards. Eventually, they reach a temple of white marble containing the jewel responsible for the protective field keeping the citadel safe from the fire. They defeat the priests and guards in the temple, and then they decide to take a rest.
While Aonar is separated from the others, the githyanki monk Imogen, commander of the citadel, and a couple of guards ambush and capture the dragonborn. Having secured him, they assault the remaining Heroes, but are defeated. After Vaako has smashed Imogen's skull against the white marble walls of the Temple, the Heroes go looking for Aonar.
They find him in the officers' quarter, unconscious and guarded by a two burly warriors. It looks like one more fight awaits them.
