After a night of rest, the Heroes take a portal to Ecstasy, City of Plinths. Their hunt begins immediately, as several murders have taken place during the previous night and in the morning. All evidence identifies Sougad the Lawshredder as the killer.
The Heroes ask around for Trolan, speaking with some of his old friends. All loved the young tiefling, and were saddened when he decided to leave to spread his love for the Lady of Pain. They also find out that a temple has been built in his honor, the Church of the Beloved.
As the evening approaches, smoke rises from the Church. When the Heroes arrive on the scene, they find Sougad in the temple, one more victim at his feet, and cultists running away from the flames engulfing the building. The Heroes face the killer once more, but when the burning roof comes crashing down on all of them, they're forced to retreat. Sougad remains in the Temple, buried under molten rock and burning wood. The Heroes decide to stick around to see the corpse of their quarry, but no trace of the murderer is found under the wreckage. Somehow, they feel they'll meet him again.
Back to tracking Trolan, they discover his plans to bring the love of the Lady to Curst, gate-town to Carceri. An old friend of the tiefling, the bariaur Charang, shares the location of the portal that Trolan most probably took to reach Curst a few days before. Once they obtain the key, the Heroes enter the same portal.
