Heroes: Meghera, Zark, Vaako, Sai
On their way to the keep, the Heroes meet the forest gnomes inhabiting the nearby forest. The creatures play a few tricks on them, trying to scare them off with illusions, but no real danger is present.
Out of the forest, the Heroes decide to hide in the hills overlooking the keep, to infiltrate it during the night. At dusk, they're spotted by a few riders, but scare them off by pretending to be powerful lords from the Faerie Lands. The riders retreat to alert the inhabitants of the keep.
Night falls, and the party manages to sneak inside the first floor of the keep. When they try to knock out a pair of guards, they soon realize that these are elite warriors, the best that King MacDougal can muster. The garrison is alerted, and the Heroes are brought to the presence of both the king and his court wizard, Kepahl.
During the meeting, the Heroes keep up their ruse, claiming to be emissaries from Faerie, and demanding the return of their stolen Nic'Epona. The king, having listened to their words, retires for the night to ponder on his decision.
But Kepahl is not convinced by the Heroes' story. Having poisoned their food with a powerful sleeping drug, he locks them in the dungeons to interrogate them. The Heroes tell him the whole truth, and also mention the existence of Sigil and the Multiverse. Kepahl, who has only partial knowledge of such wonders, makes a deal with the Heroes. He will convince the king to release the Nic'Epona, but in exchange he wants them to liase an "alliance" with the magical horses, and to return to him to tell him more about the Multiverse. The Heroes accept, and they're released.
The day after, all goes as planned. The Heroes and the king leave on good terms, and the Nic'Epona is free to plane shift back to her sisters. When the Heroes meet the mystical equines again, they receive a mighty gift: they will be allowed to call on them ten times during their lifetime, to be brought wherever they wish in the Multiverse.
