Heroes: Meghera, Zark, Trull, So-Kehur
The Heroes kill the attacking warriors, leaving none alive to answer any questions about their motives. Set on delivering their prisoner as soon as possible, they continue their travel in the Astral Plane.
They have a chance encounter with a Deva, an angelic traveller on his way to Heaven. After a short philosophical discussion on the nature of right and wrong, the celestial leave the Heroes to their own devices.
After a few more hours, the fortress of Pitiless looms ahead. The Heroes are let in by the frost giant guards, and they're brought to the presence of the twin dwarven masters of the prison. The dwarves show the Heroes the endless rows of cells keeping inmates of all sorts. The Heroes soon realize that Pitiless is no ordinary prison: those trapped for eternity inside the cold cells have never been judged by any court, but are here at the whim of those that subdued them in the past.
Yet they spend no tears on the grim fate of the inmates, and deliver Eztli as planned; they also hand the Crown of Mental Prowess to the dwarves as payment. When one of the twins wears the artefact, something goes awry The powerful item somehow overloads, and send waves of psionic energy coursing through the prison.
For a moment, all the magical seals keeping the prisoners in their cells dissipate and chaos ensues. Before the seals are restored, many powerful creatures escape their cells, and begin rampaging through the prison. The frost giants try to contain the damage, yet the Heroes find themselves to contend with some of the most powerful inmates.
Only after they defeat both a sphinx and a beholder does order get restored, and the Heroes can now witness the damage created by the short-lived riot.
